OMG, I have knit a sweater!
The perfectionist in me sees all the tiny little flaws, but overall I think it looks pretty great now that it has finished blocking. Blocking evened out the stitches, though the large number of plies in the yarn meant that there were a few stitches that ended up uneven where I had ripped back or missed a ply (is that a word?).
I’m forgoing the buttons for the owls eyes, both out of a lack of desire to sew on twenty four buttons and its intended recipient age. I’d hate to know that some of the buttons fell off and became a danger.
I was worried that it looked huge when I first finished it, but it seems more suitable for a six to nine month old baby. Of course, my experience is limited, but it’s probably still a bit on the large side. I think the problem lies in my interpretation of the pattern – the ribbing on the body is supposed to be two inches, then six inches of stockinette, or at least that’s what I thought. Looking a the measurements, it appears that the total body length (including the ribbing) is supposed to be six inches. I’m hoping this just means that it will fit for a decent amount of time next winter before he grows out of it. In any case, here are the pictures. More details at Ravelry.
So, now I’ve officially knit a sweater. I can’t believe that it only took a week – sometimes I can’t believe that I’ve moved to knitting sweaters and socks, when it wasn’t that long ago that I was making ugly hats out of Wal-Mart cotton and two flat needles.
Photos below – I’m hoping to have a picture with the intended recipient eventually, but since he’s in Germany, it may be a while. And he’ll probably have to grow into a bit.

This is closer to the actual color, but it’s a bit red tinted.

that is so, so, so cute!!! makes me want to try that pattern as well– I’ve never made a sweater either
It looks BEAUTIFUL– great job!!!
