Modesty Returning in Teen Clothing?
August 18, 2008 by jesshagman
According to a popular article on CNN.com, teens are turning to more modest clothing. The evidence: one mother who noticed that her daughter decided to wear a white cardigan over her strapless dress at her eighth grade graduation, the word of one fashion retail forecaster, and the director of Pure Fashions, a Catholic-based group that pushes teens (well, teen girls anyway) to dress modestly.
Doesn’t seem like compelling evidence to me, but how often do media supported trends actually have a basis in fact?
This particular statement, from “trend director” Stephanie Meyerson is particularly dubious:
Again, there is no evidence to back up this statement. And, of course, there’s the implication that anyone who wears less than “modest” clothing does so to attract male attention.
Just make sure that your teen isn’t wearing the wrong kind of layered, supposedly modest getup though, or they’ll risk looking like Amy Winehouse…or like they just had a one night stand.
Makes you want to run out and buy a twin set doesn’t it?
