That’s so Romantic! (Another Facebook Ad)
July 2, 2008 by jesshagman
This week’s Facebook ad is below:
I’m not sure what exactly about this irked me so much. At first I was surprised that I would see an ad, since, it seems like the kind of thing that should be aimed at (straight) men. But then I saw the line about “Give him the help he needs!” and realized that they are hoping that women who are annoyed with their partners who do not live up to gift giving and date remebering standards. Ick!
Not wanting to encourage the ad on Facebook, I searched for the site name and found www.getinherhead.com where couples can register their important dates and set reminders to be sent ahead of time. There is also an option to “get in his head” for women, but that section still references him showing up on time with a gift.
This was the worst part, though: In the “Tour for Him,” description of how the site works it says “Either of you (most likely her) put important dates into a shared calendar.” Nice job of sexist assumptions there. It is really only us women who care enough about dates and anniversaries to make our partners use such a site. And, then, of course, it’s insulting to men, to suggest that they simply cannot remember to buy gifts on appropriate days. Gah!
